Kueh Bahulu

Friday, September 03, 2010 , In

Kueh bahulu is a perennial favourite among Malaysians of all ages. It's soft and slightly dry texture goes very well with black coffee.Kueh bahulu comes in different shapes, but the popular ones are the goldfish and the button (see picture right).

Ingredients

3 egg yolks
4 egg whites
100gm sugar
Half teaspoon vanilla essence
100gm wheat flour
1 tablespoon tapioca flour
Quarter teaspoon baking powder

Method

1. Sieve wheat and tapioca flour together with baking powder.
2. Whisk the eggs and sugar until stiff.
3. Add the vanilla essence.
4. Fold in 20grms of sifted flour with 100ml of egg batter. Preheat oven to 250 degrees centigrade. Lightly grease the mould (to prevent the bahulu from sticking) and spoon in batter. Do not fill to the top. Bake bahulu for about five minutes.

Alternatively, you can bake bahulu the traditional way – using charcoal fire. You have to place the hot coals on top of and under the mould.

Bahulu keeps quite well in an airtight container, but will harden with time.

Take off my shirt... .. .

Saturday, August 21, 2010 , In ,

So my wife came up to me and said, "Take off my shirt." So I took off her shirt. Then she said, "Take off my skirt." I took off her skirt. "Take off my shoes." I took off her shoes. "Now my hose, bra, and panties." I took them off. Then she looked at me and said, "I don't want to catch you wearing my things ever again."

Negative Double Positive

Sunday, August 15, 2010 , In

An MIT linguistics professor was lecturing his class the other day. “In English,” he said, “a double negative forms a positive. However, in some languages, such as Russian, a double negative remains a negative. But there isn’t a single language, not one, in which a double positive can express a negative.”

A voice from the back of the room piped up, “Yeah, right.”

Computer Stupidity

Saturday, August 07, 2010 , In ,

  • Customer: "I installed Windows 98 on my computer, and it doesn't work."
  • Tech Support: "Ok, what happens when you turn on your computer?"
  • Customer: "Boy, are you listening? I said it doesn't work."
  • Tech Support: "Well, what happens when you TRY to turn it on?"
  • Customer: "Look, I'm not a computer person. Talk regular English, not this computer talk, ok?"
  • Tech Support: "Ok, let's assume your computer is turned off, and you just sat down in front of it, and want to use it. What do you do?"
  • Customer: "Don't talk like I'm stupid, boy. I turn it on."
  • Tech Support: "And then what happens?"
  • Customer: "What do you mean?"
  • Tech Support: "Does anything appear on your monitor? I mean, the TV part."
  • Customer: "The same thing I saw last time I tried."
  • Tech Support: "And that is what?"
  • Customer: "Are you sure you know what you're doing?"
  • Tech Support: "Yes, sir. What is on your screen?"
  • Customer: "A bunch of little pictures."
  • Tech Support: "Ok, in the upper left corner, do you see 'My Computer'."
  • Customer: "No, all I see is that little red circle thing with the chunk out of it."
  • Tech Support: "You mean an apple?"
  • Customer: "I guess it kind of looks like an apple."

"You WILL be alone. Upon retirement, you will take the Long Walk... which every Judge takes, outside these city walls, into the Cursed Earth. There you will remain for the last of your days, alone and carrying the Law."

When we can see,
          we are actually blind.
When we turn blind,
that's when we can really see.

The Colour Theory

Thursday, July 08, 2010 , In

i have a theory;

what if the colour that each of us see is different from one person to another? here's an example.

to alee, this is blue. but in udin's eye, blue is actually this colour. and nuex has forever known this colour to be blue. and here's the interesting part; all of them will agree that the sky is blue although they see different colours form each other, since they were introduced that blue to be this / this / this colour. and for that, they never even thought to argue.

i have another theory;

all of us have their own favourite colour. some like turquoise, some like indigo, some like apple green. that was said to make each of us an individual. so if the above theory is true, then what if all of us actually have the same favourite colour? example:

alee likes red. udin favors green. nuex thinks purple is hot. if everybody sees different colours from everybody else, then maybe to alee red is this colour, to udin green is this colour, and nuex sees this as purple. so all three of them actually likes the same colour, regardless of what they call it!

kinda cool eh? :)
